What is Shinrin-Yoku?

Popularized in Japan in the 1980s, shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” is the practice of getting back to nature and taking in the atmosphere of the forest. In addition to the sense of calm and restoration that comes with a trip into the forest, Shinrin-yoku has been proven to boost the immune system, reduce blood pressure and stress, as well as improve mood.

Practice with Us

The Gaige House + Ryokan is a firm believer in the benefits of shinrin-yoku and encourages the practice in the forests surrounding the hotel and in the greater Sonoma Valley area. For more information on how to practice, as well as guided trips to the surrounding forests, please reach out to the front desk.
